What is skip tracing?

Skip tracing is the process of locating a person who has moved, changed contact information, or is deliberately avoiding contact. The term comes from the phrase "skipped town." Investigators use a combination of database research, public records, field work, and source interviews to find current addresses, phone numbers, and other identifying information.

Who uses skip tracing services?

Attorneys locating witnesses or defendants, creditors and collection agencies tracking debtors, individuals searching for missing family members, process servers who need a current address to serve legal documents, and businesses trying to reach former customers or employees are among the most common clients.

How long does it take to locate someone?

Many skip traces are resolved within 24 to 72 hours. Cases involving subjects who are actively evading contact or have limited digital footprints may take longer. We provide a realistic assessment at the outset based on the information you have available.

What information do I need to provide?

The more you can share, the faster the search. A full legal name is the minimum. Additional useful information includes date of birth, last known address, Social Security number (if available), vehicle information, employer, and known associates. Even partial information is a starting point.

Is skip tracing legal?

Yes, when conducted by a licensed investigator using lawful methods. Kreymer Investigative uses public records, licensed databases, and field research that comply with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DPPA), and applicable state law.

Can you locate someone who doesn't want to be found?

Often, yes. People who are avoiding contact still leave traces — utility connections, vehicle registrations, court filings, social media activity, and other records that a trained investigator knows how to find and interpret. We cannot guarantee a result in every case, but we will give you an honest assessment of the likelihood before you commit.
